This is my first alternate for the 42144 “Material handler” (but actually the second I built). My first idea for a 42144 alternate was a transformer robot (spoiler 🙂 ). I then decided to use the design of the truck to build another model, a much simpler one, in the form of a tow truck. As the original set, this alternates has three independent pneumatic functions, each controlled by a separate switch:
- Raise/Lower the boom (bottom left switch),
- Extend the crane (top left switch),
- Deploy the platform (top right switch).
The steering is controlled by a HOG, and the doors open. The cabin has a (non-functional) steering wheel and two sits. The model also features two manual stabilizers.
