42144 Alternate: Container-Truck

Here is my third alternate for the 42144 “Material Handler”, and most likely my last for this set and this year. Originally, I wanted to produce three MOCs with the same look. Building the container loading system, however, turned this third episode into a completely distinct project. When the bricks talk, one must listen…

This model features two pneumatic functions, controled by two switches behind the cabin, on the right side. The outer switch controls the mini-LA, which deploys the outriggers. The inner switch controls the two big LA, which are joined to control the two lifting arms. This means that the spare ‘T’ connector from the original set is needed to build this model. Does this count as an alternate then? Well, my answer to this question is yes, as I think of alternates as traditional official B-models. In the old days, TLC would even add additional parts to a set in order to build a second model!

Two functions “only”, but there is a trick… Inspired by the 42024 set, the unloading of the container can be done in two ways. It can be deposited on the floor, or it can be tipped. The control of these two modes is done by the outriggers: when up, the container tips, when deployed, the container is placed on the ground.

The container can be detached. The truck further features opening doors and steering by HOG.
